Located 42 miles northeast of Los Cabos Airport (SJD), Los Barriles is truly a sportman's paradise where the average year-round temperature is 78F (summers are hot though!). Baja has over 300 sunny days per year, with an average rainfall rate of less than 10 inches per year.
Los Barriles offers world class fishing year-round. Marlin, Dorado, Tuna, Roosterfish, Sailfish, and Wahoo are but a few of the species that can be found in the surrounding crystal clear waters. Several of the local hotels offer charters to non-guests. In the calmer months, you can rent a boat and have it moored in front of the house. Our neighborhood beach has two jetties which provide structure and make for terrific cast fishing from the white sandy beach.
From November through April when the "El Norte" winds blow down the Sea of Cortez, Los Barriles boasts some of the best bump-and-jump windsurfing and kitesurfing in the world. Vela offers rental gear and is located a few minutes from the house. Locals use the nearby beach as a launch (two blocks from the house). Note this is not a beginner location.
The entire Baja peninsula offers countless trails for motorcycles and ATVs. A favorite ride is along the cliffs from Los Barriles to Punta Pescadero where you can enjoy an authentic Mexican lunch. You can also follow one of the arroyos (dry creek beds) up into the mountains where you will find gorgeous waterfalls.
Take a kayak and paddle out the protected beach at the end of our neighborhood. The abundant structure (mainly large boulders) creates a wonderous marine environment teeming with all varieties of fish and crustaceans.
There are several restaurants in town, from the world's best fish taco stand to a first class italian restaurant (and yes they use linen table cloths).
There is a par 3 course in town but we highly recommend making the hour drive to Los Cabos where you will find one-of-a-kind ocean and dessert courses.
Cabo Pulmo, a short drive away, is a protected national marine park that boasts North America's only live coral reef on the west coast. Spectacular diving and snorkeling is a favorite activity at the park.
